Their Best Shot
I wanted Donald Trump and Robert Kennedy Jr. to give me their best shot. I don’t mean the daily worst shot I get when I open the British Guardian or the New York Times. Both of those papers tell me early every morning just how bad and how far to the political, economic, and social right we have moved as a society. If someone would have predicted how far we would come away from progress after the Vietnam era, I would have said that that person was fuckin nuts!
But here I was in a particular risk group for contracting and having serious effects of COVID-19, and these two fuckers were trying to make it hard for me to get the updated vaccine. What a horror! Imagine living through the pandemic, especially the years 2020 through 2022, and looking to protect myself from what seems to be a new surge and having these two morons stand in the way.
Why were these two Neanderthals standing in the way? First, they hate science because science makes a person think carefully and work out solutions to a problem in the natural world. Science can make the world a better place in many instances. They hate that critical stuff, and they hate the great progress in the development of vaccines through mRNA vaccine research. Now, I can’t say that I understand even the scientific basics of the development of a vaccine, but I recall the fear in my family and community during the 1950s and the polio epidemic. I recall the story of Franklin Roosevelt and how he suffered with the disease and seeing people and children in iron lungs. That vaccine was administered on a sugar cube, but a syringe would have done, even for a kid, if beating that horror of a disease was possible. In the 1950s, my family was even fearful of going to the beach because of the chance of contracting that horrible disease.
If Trump can throw a monkey wrench into anything, he does. And his secretary of Health and Human Services, another right-wing scowler, was ready to spread lies about another vaccine. Measles is yet another disease that is growing, and thanks to the likes of Kennedy and the imbeciles who follow him and want to put innocent children at risk for a preventable disease that can have serious complications.
Technicalities in making the vaccine available, another idiotic result of Kennedy, forced me to seek out the updated COVID-19 vaccine in Connecticut, in the town of Litchfield. The ride to and from Litchfield is beautiful amid the Litchfield Hills. Both Route 7 and 63 offer incredible panoramas of the surrounding mountains and low-lying areas. The beauty of the area can even make a person forget, for a time, what a bunch of stupid fuckers now run the government in Washington, D.C.
By chance, I got the vaccine on the same day Kennedy was called to testify before the Senate.
