No Comment at the New York Times
The New York Times is known as the “newspaper of record,” reporting “all the news that’s fit to print.” The latter, when it comes to the Israel/Gaza war, is a blatant lie. That lie, despite easily obtainable information, has allowed the ongoing genocide in Gaza to continue.
This morning, as I have many, many times since the onset of the war begun by the Hamas-led attack began on October 7, 2023, I wrote about the humanitarian aid ship that has been hindered, “diverted” is the term Israeli officials used, from bringing relief to the Gaza Strip by the Israeli military at sea. That ship carried protesters, activists, and aid, and among its passengers was Greta Thunberg, the environmental and human rights activist (June 9, 2025).
My comment, which noted the intent of the humanitarian ship, the fact that Israel is enforcing collective punishment against civilians in Gaza in contravention of the Geneva Conventions, and the genocidal nature of the Israel/Gaza war in Gaza, would not see the light of day. Even though Israel has fought a genocidal war against Gaza and the Palestinian people while being called out for that genocide, including Israeli officials now wanted by the court for those war crimes, the Times refuses to acknowledge these crimes in print and online. Indeed, for decades, the Times has refused to place the issues of embargo, the deprivation of human rights of the Palestinian people, and that war on the front burner of their journalism.
All of these sins of substandard journalistic ethics and morality have taken a backseat to the editorial and news policies of the “newspaper of record” and the tastes and demands of some of its powerful subscribers.
